This page lists all of the Town Boards and Committees. These groups are comprised of Chester residents who have volunteered their time and experience to help improve our community. Joining one of these groups is a great way to get involved and have your opinion heard.

The Board meets and holds public hearings on the 3rd Thursday of the month (unless otherwise noted) in the Meeting Room at the Municipal Building beginning at 7:00 P.M.

Conservation Commission:  (603) 887-3719

The Chester Conservation Commission is a seven-member, all-volunteer board appointed by the Selectmen under the provisions of state RSA 36-A: 2, which allows municipalities in New Hampshire to establish commissions “for the proper utilization and protection of the natural resources and for the protection of watershed resources.” This work includes preparing maps or plans, "keeping an index of open space and natural, aesthetic, or ecological areas" within the town in order to obtain information “pertinent to proper utilization of all such areas." The Commission acts as an advisory board to other town and state boards and agencies involved in land use planning and works to natural resources in Chester.

Meetings 1st and 2nd Tuesday of month, 7pm Chester Town Hall.  The first meeting is a planning meeting only and is not televised.  The second meeting is used to review subdivision applications, wetlands permit applications, and other matters presented to the Commission for comment.  Both meetings are open to the public and input is encouraged.  New and alternate members who wish to have a hand in the future of Chester and in the preservation of its natural resources and rural characteristics are welcomed.

Public Access Community & Television (PACT):  

An appointed group of individuals who represent Public & Government Access Television, CTV-21, Educational Television, CEVT-22, and residents, formerly known as the Cable Negotiations Committee (ad hoc). This group meets as needed to review the needs of Public Access Television, and recommend expenditures from the PACT fund (monies received from Adelphia Communications per the renewal franchise effective April 1, 2003).

School District Future Planning Committee:  

Assists School Board in long range planning for future school needs, especially monitoring school enrollment numbers.

For the 2005-2006 school year, the FPC projected 728 total students for Chester Academy in Pre-School through 8th grade. The actual enrollment on October 3, 2005 was 693. So the actual enrollment was below the projections by 35 students...

 

Wason Pond Conservation and Recreation Area Advisory Committee

Per authority of the Town, with the warrant article passed at May 2006 Town Meeting, the Wason Pond Conservation & Recreation Area Advisory Committee will become a commission effective July 1, 2007. budgetary authority to oversee the preservation and management of the Wason Pond Conservation & Recreation Area. The commission will have seven voting members to be appointed by the Board of Selectmen, and will consist of 2 (two) Conservation Commission representatives, 2 (two) Recreation Commission representatives, one Board of Selectmen representative, one Finance & Budget representative, one At-Large representative, 2 (two) alternates, and non-voting member(s) as needed (e.g. Rockingham County Conservation District), similar to the current committee make up. At-Large representatives are needed for this commission. Those who are interested are invited to attend meetings, or contact the Chairperson for further information.
